December 2025 marked the return of our Find Larry competition, following the success of its first outing the year before. Once again, the Blue Llama team invited Islanders to take part in a light-hearted, community-focused search, bringing people together through a shared sense of curiosity, fun and festive spirit.
What started as a playful challenge quickly became an island-wide hunt, with participants scanning a digital map of Jersey, swapping theories, and enjoying the simple thrill of seeing how close they might be to finding Larry the lost llama. Along the way, the competition became a celebration of local causes and the generosity of the community that got behind it.
Larry’s island adventures
As the competition unfolded, Larry seemed to be enjoying his time off far too much.
Early on, he was spotted soaking up the views in St Brelade, taking in the sea air and enjoying a moment of calm by the beach. Before long, rumours had him wandering through town, stretching his legs and blending in with the Christmas bustle.
With every new guess, excitement grew. Where would Larry turn up next? The fun wasn’t just in being right, but in imagining his next stop and watching the island slowly close in on his hiding place.
Eventually, Larry’s adventure came to an end at square AD-31, just around the corner from the Vic in the Valley. We suspect he was popping in for a little warm-up before the National Llama Day celebrations.
The numbers speak for themselves
When the competition launched, the island map was made up of 2,526 squares. By the time Larry was finally found, 2,240 of them had been taken, with people exploring every corner of Jersey in search of our elusive llama.
Here’s how it played out:
- 2,526 squares available at launch
- 2,240 squares selected by the end of the competition
- Hundreds of nominations for local charities across the island
The most nominated charities were:
- Jersey Hospice Care — 351 nominations
- JSPCA Animals’ Shelter — 226
- Dementia Jersey — 164
- Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC) — 145
- Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (Jersey Zoo) — 117
In addition, “Other” charities were selected 493 times, with Brightly emerging as the most popular choice in that category.
It was genuinely uplifting to see just how many different causes people chose to support.
A shared win for a great cause
This year’s winner was Jackie Crick, who successfully found Larry and nominated Jersey Hospice Care as her chosen charity.
The £1,000 prize was split evenly, with:
- £500 awarded to Jackie
- £500 donated to Jersey Hospice Care
We were delighted to meet with the team at Jersey Hospice Care and hand over the cheque in person. It was a small moment, but a meaningful one, and a reminder of why we wanted to put charities at the heart of this year’s competition.
What’s next for Larry?
Bringing Find Larry back for a second year felt like the right thing to do, and the response has already got us thinking about what might come next.
New twists, new causes, and maybe even new places for Larry to hide.
For now, though, we just want to say thank you.
Thank you, Jersey
To everyone who took part, nominated a charity, shared the competition, or simply followed along, thank you. Find Larry continues to be a reminder of how creative ideas, simple technology and a bit of fun can make a real impact.
And to Larry… enjoy your rest. We’ll be back.
