December 2024 marked the debut of our Find Larry competition, a community-focused event that brought Islanders together in the spirit of fun and festivity from the Blue Llama team. Hosted just in time for National Llama Day, the competition challenged participants to locate Larry the lost llama on our digital map of Jersey, with £1,000 in prizes up for grabs.
The Numbers Speak for Themselves
The response to the competition was overwhelming, showcasing the incredible community spirit across Jersey.
- Over 2,421 entries were submitted during the competition period (2nd–8th December).
- Islanders explored a digital map of 2,430 squares, each holding the potential to reveal Larry’s location.
- Our Leaderboard showed the top schools to be nominated were 1) Mont Nicole 2) La Moye 3) Hautlieu 4) St. Peter’s 5. Mont à l’Abbé
A Shared Celebration
The winning square was finally selected on National Llama Day by Eden Hannah, who split the £1,000 prize with his nominated school, Grainville (£500 each).
Eden, pictured with Sophie Shaw (Head of Year 9) and Sue Morris (Headmistress), plans to save their £500, potentially putting it towards a MacBook in the future. Ms Shaw shared her excitement about the school’s £500 share, noting:
“We have some ideas for how the money could be spent, but Eden will ultimately make the decision. It’s wonderful to see young people taking the lead in supporting their schools.”
Teamwork Behind the Scenes
Bringing the Find Larry competition to life was no small feat. Our team at Blue Llama worked to develop the interactive digital map, ensuring a smooth user experience.
- Design and Development: The map was custom-built to engage users, combining playful visuals with intuitive functionality.
- Collaboration: We worked closely with local schools and media partners to spread the word and maximise participation.
- Execution: Behind the scenes, our marketing and project management teams coordinated efforts to ensure everything ran smoothly, from launch day to winner announcements.
